Turn an architecture diagram image into editable PowerPoint

If you have an architecture diagram as a PNG, screenshot, or PDF, converting it to a PPTX with text boxes and separate pictures can make the next revision easier. Check text boxes for module names, picture boundaries for artwork, and connectors for changes to the relationships.
2pptx Full-element conversion recovers editable text and separates visual content where it can. You then edit the downloaded file in PowerPoint. This guide uses actual separation screenshots from an AI agent architecture slide and a project delivery slide.
Try Full-element conversion with your diagram
Decide which parts of the diagram need to change
Changing a module name requires different objects from changing the way nodes connect. Mark the parts you need to revise before choosing a workflow.
| Your revision | Objects you need | How to proceed |
|---|---|---|
| Change module names, descriptions, or a version number | Editable text boxes | For text alone, choose Standard or Premium clean according to the background. Use Full-element when pictures also need to move. |
| Move icons, resize artwork, or replace module illustrations | Separate pictures and their associated labels | Inspect the Full-element output, then adjust the objects in PowerPoint. |
| Add branches, change arrow direction, or keep lines attached to moving nodes | Native shapes and connectors | Keep useful text and artwork, then redraw the nodes and connections that need to change. |
Visual elements in Full-element output are generally transparent pictures. They let you revise the slide layout. For a system diagram that needs ongoing topology changes, connected nodes, or vector editing, rebuild those parts as native objects. If you already have an original PPTX containing those objects, edit that file directly.
Real example: locate labels and inspect the central layers
The architecture slide has a layered central illustration, explanation cards on both sides, and icons along the bottom. This user-provided screenshot shows the actual separation result, with its original Chinese text and selection markers. The heading, labels, and several visual areas have their own selection boxes.

In your downloaded file, deselect everything and click a module name. If a text cursor appears, change a short word first. When selecting artwork, inspect whether the object contains one layer, one icon, or a larger picture that includes a glow or base.
For example, a revision from “目标理解” (goal understanding) to “需求分析” (requirements analysis) would need a check of the left card, the central label, and the caption by the bottom icon. Architecture diagrams often repeat the same module name. After editing one occurrence, check the other locations. A longer description may also span several text boxes, so read the complete sentence for punctuation and line breaks.
On dark slides, glows, shadows, and thin lines can overlap modules. In desktop PowerPoint, open Home > Select > Selection Pane, or search for Selection Pane if your menus differ. Select an object, move it slightly, and undo to see which parts travel together before choosing a new position.
Check the labels and separated objects in your diagram
Convert the diagram image to a PPTX
- Use an original PNG/JPG export or PDF where possible. Keep small labels, arrows, and module edges clear. For a screenshot, remove browser controls and unnecessary margins, then check that the smallest label is readable.
- Open the Full-element upload page and choose your file. An image-based PPTX must have one full-slide picture per page. For a mixed file containing native text and shapes, follow the page guidance to export a PDF first.
- Review the pending pages, page count, and price before submitting. Check the pricing page and submission screen for current charges and credits.
- When the task finishes, download the PPTX and open it in desktop PowerPoint. Duplicate the slide you plan to edit so you can compare it with the conversion output.
- Change one module name and adjust one separate icon. Check that the result supports your intended revision before processing the remaining pages. The PowerPoint editability checklist covers these checks in more detail.
If the diagram's small text is already blurred, get a clearer export first. Enlarging a low-resolution screenshot gives you a larger canvas, but the text still needs checking.
Move a module with the labels that belong to it
The project delivery example has five stages arranged from left to right, arrows between them, and headings and descriptions below. In this actual separation screenshot, the stage illustrations, text, and some decorations have distinct selection boundaries.

To move the stage labelled “验证体验” (validate the experience), inspect its checklist illustration, heading, and description separately. Select and group the independent objects that should move together. Then check the position and direction of the arrows linking that stage to its neighbors. Look for Group on the Shape Format or Picture Format tab.
Work within each object's actual boundaries. The orange check marks in the checklist may belong to the same picture. Replace that illustration if you need a different icon design. To use separated artwork in another presentation, see the icon and illustration reuse guide with a downloadable example.
Finalize the wording before resizing pictures and adjusting spacing. After moving an object, inspect its former position for leftover lines and its new position for covered text. See the image slide layout guide for further adjustments.
Rebuild the connections that need to change
A line that you can move is different from a connector that stays attached to a node. A separated line may be a picture, or it may remain part of the module artwork. To add branches or keep endpoints attached as nodes move, create shapes and connectors for that part of the diagram in PowerPoint.
- Keep the original diagram as a reference. Check each node name and the start and end of each relationship.
- Use Insert > Shapes to draw the nodes you need to maintain, then add the checked module text. Place reusable icons beside the nodes where useful.
- Choose a connector in the Lines section of the Shapes menu. Attach its ends to the nodes' connection points, then set the arrow direction.
- Move one node to check that the endpoint stays attached. Review branches, crossing lines, and label positions.
You can delete an old line if it is a separate object. If it is embedded in a background or illustration, that picture needs work too. For a dense diagram with frequently changing relationships, rebuild the connections on a new slide and reuse the extracted text and icons. The menu and connector guidance follows Microsoft Support's object selection and line documentation.
Trace the diagram before sharing it
Start at the entry module and follow each arrow to its destination. Check that names are consistent, descriptions belong to the right nodes, and old arrows have not been left behind. Deselect all objects and review text, picture edges, and alignment at presentation size. Save a PPTX copy, close it, and reopen it to confirm that the edits remain and the text and pictures you still need are selectable.
If the file contains only one full-page picture, use the guide to PDF conversions that leave a single image to inspect its structure. Before converting a varied batch, try a representative page with small text, overlapping artwork, and connecting lines.
